Frasers Property Australia has announced the renewal of the Master of Architecture (Urban Transformation) scholarship for women at Western Sydney University. This scholarship is worth $60,000 and is designed to encourage growth in female participation and promote more opportunities for women in architecture.
The scholarship has been renewed for a further two years, after its establishment in 2020. It is in line with Frasers Property’s commitment to diversity and gender equality.
“It is no secret that the architecture industry has traditionally been male-dominated and that bridging the gender gap in this field must start from the ground up,” says Nicole Sparks, general manager of delivery and operations, Frasers Property Australia.
The Master of Architecture (Urban Transformation) Scholarships for Women at Western Sydney University is a great way to contribute to this goal, provide practical support to women in the field of architecture, and encourage more female talent in the field.
“As a major real estate group, it is our responsibility to nurture the talents of tomorrow who will change the future of our industry and our cities. Frasers Property is proud to continue to support us as a scholarship sponsor, so that women have greater representation in the architecture and real estate industry in general.”
The Dean of the School of Engineering, Design and the Built Environment at Western Sydney University, Professor Mike Cagioglou, welcomed the scholarship renewal.
“Western Sydney University is proud to partner with Frasers Property Australia whose continued generosity and commitment makes this important scholarship opportunity possible for talented female architecture students,” says Professor Kagioglou.
“The university is a world leader in gender equality and is committed to supporting its students to achieve their aspirations, including by nurturing the next generation of female architects in Western Sydney.
“The Master of Architecture (Urban Transformation) program offers students a highly entrepreneurial multidisciplinary environment and learning experiences with industry leaders, such as Frasers Property Australia.”
First-time scholarship recipient, Sarah Abu Dreib, is currently completing a master’s degree. She says winning the grant boosted her chances as a budding architect.
“After winning the grant, I entered an architecture competition where we redesigned public spaces. It sparked my interest in urban design and I am currently doing an internship at an urban design and planning firm.”
“I am really grateful for the scholarship as it led to so many amazing opportunities that helped me know that the field of urban design and planning is what I want to pursue as a major in my future career.”
The Master of Architecture (Urban Transformation) at Western Sydney University provides students with access to real-world learning opportunities, including the major infrastructure project Western Sydney Aerotropolis.
The Master of Architecture (Urban Transformation) Scholarship for Women is worth $30,000 annually across a two-year Master of Architecture (Urban Transformation) course and is available to full-time and part-time students who have completed their undergraduate studies in Architecture.
Scholarship applications will open in November 2021 for study in 2022, with the winner announced in the first quarter of 2022. For more information, click here.
