New SCC scholarship honors Painters

NOVEMBER 2 – NORTH MANKATO – Chris Pinter, a mainstay in the Radio Mankato industry and a longtime supporter of Southern Central College, will be commemorated through an ongoing scholarship fund, the SCC North Mankato Foundation announced Tuesday.

Painter, who died in June, was a longtime founding member of the foundation’s Classic Golf Committee and he and his wife, Dennis, have been tireless volunteers raising money for scholarships and programs at the college.

The principal amount of $30,000 in scholarship awarded to Chris and Dennis Painter will remain in perpetuity, as its earnings are used to support scholarships for students in the SCC Department of Sales and Marketing. Dennis Pinter is a graduate of this program.

Fred Lutz, chair of the Classic Golf Commission, led the committee’s efforts to raise funds for the new grant. Lutz and Painter have served side by side on the committee for nearly 30 years as the classics have brought in more than $625,000 to support the foundation’s efforts since its inception.

Dennis Pinter said in a statement released by the foundation, which expects the award to award more than $400,000 in scholarships to SCC students this year.
