Jersey State Bank offering scholarship


JERSEYVILLE — The State Bank of Jersey on Monday announced a competition that enables high school seniors in Illinois to enter a statewide essay writing competition as part of a program sponsored by Illinois Community Banks and CBAI Community Banking to increase public awareness of locally owned banks and their contributions to the community .

A cash award of $1,000 annually for up to four years of higher education will be awarded to the author of the best essay submitted to the CBAI by a participating Illinois high school student. Up to 11 additional first place prizes worth $1,000 and 12 second place prizes worth $500 are available throughout the state. An additional $500 high school award will be given to the overall winner.


Jersey State Bank is also offering $2,250 as a local prize. The same articles submitted to the state competition will be judged locally.


The bank is working with Jersey Community High School to invite seniors to submit a one-page essay on the topic “How has the response of community banks differed from that of major banks during the global pandemic?”

The article should be no longer than one page, double-spaced, using Times New Roman font, 10-12 point in size.

Essays must be submitted to the Bank by Friday 14 January 2022. The Bank will submit selected essays to CBAI to be eligible for statewide competition.

Headquartered in Springfield, CBAI is a professional association that represents nearly 300 Illinois chartered banks and thrifts throughout Illinois.
