Pupils at Lavendon School in Milton Keynes received a donation of reflective bag cards to help them shine as they drove to and from school for their Walk to School month last month.

International Walk to School Month is held in October each year and was created to raise awareness of the importance of energizing children by walking or going to school every day.

Home builder David Wilson Homes gave the school 160 high-visibility bag markers for her pupils to wear while walking, biking or jogging to and from school, ensuring they were easy to see on the roads as dark nights approached.

Lavendon School Principal Lisa Watson said: “Many of our young students walk the journey to and from school, and their safety while doing so is very important to us.

“That’s why we are really grateful to David Wilson Homes for their donation of the High Bags label. We were thrilled to accept the bags and our students will use them throughout October and into the future.”

The Lavendon School is located near the Lavendon Fields home building project on White Canons Drive, and the donation of high-visibility bag tags is another part of David Wilson Homes outreach to the local community.

In what has been a challenging time for schools across the country as a result of the pandemic, the lead developer is as committed as ever to providing support during the month of Walk to School and beyond.

John Dillon, managing director at David Wilson Homes South Midlands, said: “We want to ensure that pupils in the communities are now visible on the dark nights here, and hope our donation has encouraged them to practice walking to school safely.

“This is a campaign we actively support each year as we seek to assist local school children in their efforts to navigate on foot, and the bag cards have proven to be effective and practical.

“As a result of the COVID-19 crisis, it is very important for us to support local schools in and around the communities we are building, so we are delighted to have the opportunity to support Lavendon School during our Walk to School month.”

David Wilson Homes bag tags have been especially useful during the month of walking to school, making sure that they will benefit students on their future trips to school throughout the winter months.
