Hartlepool school’s bake off challenge supports cancer charity

Eldon Grove Academy, in Hartlepool, invited young people and their relatives to enter The Great Eldon Grove Bake Off with resulting creations served in an afternoon café.

The event, which ended with the sale of a mammoth cake, was the school’s first since before the pandemic and raised more than £1,000 to support Macmillan’s fight against cancer.

Principal Christian Park explained that it was important that the school and community could come together again, adding: “The school community has really come together, strong, since the school reopened at the beginning of September. There is a real sense of community spirit and togetherness here.”

The school is part of the Extol Trust, whose CEO Julie Deville said the event highlighted the power and importance of working in partnership with families and communities.
