Council will no longer offer schools IT support

Code Green, part of the Barnsley Council, provides IT support to schools, but the council decided that it would stop trading from March 2022, and no longer provide its services to schools.

The board says this is due to a variety of “trading difficulties” it has encountered, “which has led to a deterioration in the expected financial situation with the possibility that it will soon start trading at a loss.”

Schools delegate IT services from the board, which has to compete with other organizations.

The board says there are opportunities for 17 affected employees to be redeployed into the Customer Information and Digital Services Department.

“Schools have always been responsible for financing and providing their own IT support services for a number of years, and this has not changed,” the council says.
