It’s been 30 years since stars Gary Barlow, Robbie Williams, Mark Owen, Jason Orange and Howard Donald have played at Tulbar School.
In 1991, one year after forming as a band, Take That performed at Tulbar School while touring a selection of smaller venues across the country—to the delight of their teenage fans.
About 300 students attended the event, which was held in the gymnasium. The Grimsby Telegraph reported at the time that about 20 staff, a sixth squad and two police officers patrolled the students while the Manchester team played.
“We’re really looking forward to it,” said Jason Orange, who was 21 at the time. “It’s going to be quite a sensation. If it goes well, we can do a lot of school.” He declined to say they were too lewd, saying the comments were exaggerated, “but any good publicity.”
The band played three numbers at New Waltham School, including their new solo vows, which will be released days later on the album Take That & Party.
Sophomore Lara White had seen the show. She said, “They came out great. The school had never had anything like this before.”
